Bless the Albina Music Trust family of label heads, artists and musicians that continue to preserve Portland’s Black music, culture and history of the past while ushering in new music from folks that carry on the legacy and sounds of yesterday, today and tomorrow with pride. For the labels most recent release, we present to you, Greaterkind “Change of Plans” which features a collective of regional jazz and roots-based musicians strung together to create an amazing 10 track LP of essential listening.
Sleepless nights, dead days, breakups, and a pandemic. These are the sacrifices that made greaterkind’s ‘change of plans’ a reality for our ears. Brought together through fellowship, years of recorded sessions and shows now culminate in the group’s first full length release. Greaterkind features Charlie Brown III, Peter Knudsen, Cory Limuaco, and Ian “Yuck” Lindsay. With elements of jazz fusion and funk, and undertones of r&b, gospel, and hip hop, the album is proof of concept that the whole – the connection and collaboration among these artists – is greater than the sum of its parts.
‘Change of Plans’ has been made possible through the collaboration of Albina Music Trust and greaterkind, with additional resources provided by the Regional Arts & Culture Council and Jeff Wilson. We hope those who discover this will hear the influences that date back generations.
“We stand not only on the shoulders of those who came before us, but those who are among us”
