I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with good friend, DJ, label owner and Dr., Bruce Campbell Jr., Ph.D aka DJ Junior on his Dust + Dignity podcast. DJ Junior created the Dust + Dignity project, an educational experience promoting dialogue and advancing social justice through the exploration of the relationship between music, visual art, and our society. Even its name, Dust + Dignity, points towards social activism. “Dust” represents the digging up of old records and archives, while “Dignity” represents the value of minorities during an era marred by an outing of racial ignorance that has long existed in our country and the world. What began as an audio and visual exhibition has expanded into a movement that has already received attention for its artful activism.
For the 2hr conversation, broken down into 2 parts, we discuss the early years of my life coming into music and DJ’ing, collecting, traveling the globe and more. It was great to chop it with my brother and follow the long line of DJ’s that he interviewed previously. Tune in to part 1 and be sure to follow everything Dust + Dignity, his record label Record Breakin’ Music and everything that he has going on.
