An artist making their debut within the industry or scene can either strike us as a one single sleeper or an amazing choice of musical expression that has us wanting more and with any luck, we’ll continue to see the growth in both talent and exposure of them. An artists debut is also what us DJ’s and music reviewers strive to find so that we can be one of the first to hip the world on what we believe is something that should be in everyones rotation, something that gets your day going as the world moves around you. One artist of such is who is making her inaugural outing via Mocambo Records is Turkish artist, Peki Momés who to our surprise only began recording music in 2023.
On “Göç Mevsimi”, Peki Momés delivers a double-sider of pop like disco with heavy flute and Rhodes vibes while delivering vocals in her native Turkish language which gives it a very international flair and take on what might sound common to some but very grand to others gaining maximum appeal to a wide audience range. It’s the type of tune that with the right momentum of the evening that it could gain peak play time in DJ sets that would totally move the floor.
On the flip side, “Rüya” is a heavy psych joint that embodies the gritty sound of psychedelic Anatolia. With wobbling grooves, fuzzy guitars and contemporary vocals, it brings a raw, yet hypnotic energy.
Peki Momés has a very promising sound and with her drive of creative expression which she’s demonstrated before being bit by the bug of creating music, she’s on the right path to deliver music that will add onto the the growing genre of Turkish alternative sounds.
