It’s extremely rare that we review a DJ edit of previously released music, especially when it’s an above the radar tune that often times does not need to be edited and more importantly when it’s done by someone who simply cut and paste an intro or break to extend it. Edits should be reserved for those prestigious names that hold high standards as being a master in their craft, which quite honestly are far and few in between these days. But one name that stands high in the ranks as someone who takes great care in crafting edits and often times enhancing the original track is Kon. On Kon’s latest 12” release, he worked wonders on the 1978 promo only Disco 12” of the Willie Bobo classic, “Also There”.
Pressed in extremely limited quantities and never available commercially, this 12” is a welcomed addition to those of us who own the original release and looking for something to breath new life into a forever classic and for those who never had a chance to own it, you can now have the best of both world. The A-side features the original track while the flip features an exclusive multitrack edit reworked by Kon and released in partnership with the Bobo family.
