Happy As A Lark 2-For-1 Sure Shot!

Chicago area label, Happy As A Lark keeps us moving with their discography of Reggae sure shots that they’ve been blessing us with and we’re itching to get back out into the clubs to bang them behind some serious sound systems. Although we can’t get out and about, there’s still the many DJ mix shows and live streams to keep the sounds circulating which gets the word out about these incredible releases. Arriving in the post today though are a pair of 7″ shots recently released that will satisfy our Reggae fix as quick as the package can be opened.

Ras I-Dre & Ranking Joe – Up Deh!

We are thrilled to debut another reggae vocalist outta Chicago – man called Ras I-Dre! Tracked on a version of the renowned ‘Lecturer Riddim’ from veteran group Akasha, this recording has the bass of 2020 and the vibe of 1968 … Massive low-end on this one!

I-Dre is one of the most positive people on the planet, and this tune reflects his optimistic outlook – We haffi keep it Up Deh! Keep the vibes high! Big tune with a big sentiment, especially in these uncertain times.

The flip features another true gentleman and veteran deejay extroidianre – Ranking Joe with his warning to all evil-doers that Jah sees your inequity actions and will hold you!

Rebelu Cienfuegos, Jah Scoob & King Kong – ¡Despiértate!

Rebelu has been an underground mainstay of the Chicago reggae scene since the early 2000s … Regularly popping up at shows and dances to nice up the session with his pitch-perfect vintage deejay styles.

Jah Scoob has an even longer tenure, emigrating to Chicago from Jamaica in the 1980s and regularly rocking mics and toasting parties all over the Chicagoland area.

We at HAAL are thrilled to debut Rebelu (and our first Spanish/English language 7″) with a powerfully politcally charged digi-style 7″ – Rebelu and Jah Scoob trade the mic back and forth in true sound system style, keeping the vibes high and the riddim flowing – while lyrically bouncing around topics, the focus is on everyone to ¡Despiertate! (Wake Up!) and be aware of all the injustice in the world!

The flip features veteran King Kong spititng lyrics in a similar vein – ‘What More’ … can the wicked man do? Two tuff versions on one little disc!
