The Legend of Nigger Charley

Black cinema or Blaxploitation films as some refer to them as have birthed some of the most iconic names in cinema history with Fred Williamson being on of those greats who not only had a strong career in Hollywood but abroad as well. Williamson who was an ex NFL football player stepped inside the acting world and instantly became a leading man with films like Black Caesar, Hell Up In Harlem and Three The Hard Way where he co-starred alongside Jim Kelly and Jim Brown. Williamson had enough star power that he had stipulations that not many others could pull which included that he always got the girl and he was never killed on screen. Although known for his films that tell tales from the streets, he also starred in several Black westerns as well including The Legend of Nigger Charley, The Soul of Nigger Charley, Boss Nigger, Adios Amigo and Joshua.

Williamson formed his own production company early on called Po Boy Productions where he produced international films including Death Journey (1976), Mr. Mean (1977), The Big Score (1983), The Messenger (1986) and Original Gangsters (1996) to name a few. He was also a regular in apocalyptic themed films including 1990: The Bronx Warriors (1982), Vigilante (1983) and Warriors of The Wasteland (1983).
