Butta 45’s Selects

With the upcoming 9th annual Butta 45’s Germany tour right around the corner, it’s time to start going through the boxes to figure out what I should take abroad. Having to choose between vintage funk, soul and rare groove 45’s plus the plethora of new release records that fit the format is never an easy task when you have to sort through 1000+ just to come down to 250-300.  Although a daunting task, it’s always fun to rediscover ones that you might not have played in some time and figure out what will work in the mix.

For some of the choice vintage selects, here are a few favorites that you can expect to hear in the mix of the 7 cities Butta 45’s Germany excursion.

The Shades of Black “Mystery Of Black” – One of my favorite funk 45’s that hits hard on the dance floor.

The Brothers Seven “Evil Ways” – Heavy instrumental organ funk out of Texas that’s a sure shot to make the people sweat.

The Universals “New Generation” – Slow and low. Open the night or winding things down, this is some deep shit.

Gamith “Darkness” – There ain’t too many funk 45’s that come better and this is always in my top 5!

The Fabulous Originals “It Ain’t Fair, But It’s Fun” – A staple on the deep funk scene and a classic that never gets old!

Zodiacs “Hey Rugh Nut” – Whenever traveling I always represent Philly to the fullest so you’ll definitely be catching this gem on the local Philly, C.R.S. label in the mix.
