Light rain and 51 degrees on December is a definite rarity were some of the records to be found at yesterdays Waxpaper Records Holiday Popup in Philly. The annual event was once again held at Kung Fu with a room full of dealers who filled their sale boxes with plenty of funk, soul, jazz, rare groove, library, psych, rock and everything in between to satisfy tastes and budgets. In attendance were old faithful dealers as well as new ones from Pittsburgh, West Virginia, New Jersey and points in between. Of course with every show there needs to be a line up of DJs playing selections so I packed a bag of treats to join the homies Froz1, Blaak The 9th Man and Duiji on the decks giving shoppers a little music to make ears pique.
Waxpaper has become a favorite stop here in Philly and it’s always great to be able to buy records that rarely show up locally from dealers who have taken great care in finding top wants, new favorites and records that you never knew existed. Thanks again to Wes of Grimace Federation for continuing to do this record show. It’s definitely an uphill battle doing it solo but the Philly area record community needs this.
