This past Saturday afternoon I had the pleasure of sitting down for an IG Live discussion with my good Houston brother, historian and DJ, Flash G Parks to discuss a few of our favorite Philly and Houston records made. The hour + long conversation about music, art and culture was a much needed one and from the response of those in the audience tuned in, a very insightful one at that. A few of the records discussed on this Philly side of things ranged from Jazz on the Philadelphia International Records label (which is known more for Disco), heavy Funk on the C.R.S. label, sweet soul on Cameo Parkway, raw funk on Phil-La Soul and course, no conversation would be complete without Arctic. The one lone Hip Hop record that proudly came into discussion was on Word Up Records (sister label to Pop Art Records) from my mentors in DJ’ing and recording.
Be sure to follow the homie @flashgparks who always post great content and throws some of the best music nights in Houston.
