Digging Austin

Fun times this past weekend in Austin for the Red Bull BC One South Cypher and of course, with any trip taken it’s essential that I make the rounds at local comic and record shops to do a little shopping as well as eat good. This trip was no different so after landing in at 11am and too early to check into the hotel, it was directly to hit the first shop and start the adventure of. End of An Ear was the first location which yielded a few 45’s but the scores of the day were actually a few rare big box and clamshell VHS tapes from their wall of tapes.

After checking into the hotel there was just enough time to drop the bags off before making a comic run to Austin Books & Comics which was an amazing shop filled with tons of books, figures, graphic novels and more. Was definitely worth it to stop by and grab a stack of some great books. After another short LYFT ride away, I found myself at Breakaway Records which is of course a must stop whenever in town. There’s 45 selection is on point as is their vinyl game in general and used audio equipment section.

After a few more stops and 7hrs total of being out in the Austin heat, it was time to head back to the hotel, freshen up and find something to eat before settling in for the even to relax and prepare for the following day DJ’ing the Red Bull BC One event. Not wanting to roam too far to eat, I opted for a great spot which was just up the street and decided on having the jumbo gulf shrimp and fried gulf oysters. I love both shrimp and oysters and it’s really crazy that you can taste the difference in them coming from the gulf versus on the East or West Coast waters.

All and all a great weekend getaway to a great city to find and bring home a few memories and gems for the collection.
