One name that has been a constant within the music scene for the better part of 25+ years is JJ Whitefield who has really seen and done it all. Hailing from Munich Germany, JJ Whitefield has been an influential figure within the funk scene and help to grow it’s popularity worldwide as well as orchestrating collectives such as Poets of Rhythm, Karl Hector, Embryo and Witch and Ebo Taylor to name a few. Whitefield is somewhat of a musical genius when he gets into the studio which shows just how far he’s grown, yet stayed consistently him over the years.
His new LP release, “Puzzled” on Broc Recordz is masterpiece of sound selections across 13 solid tracks ranging from the raw funk that we’ve come to love from him to Krautrock and always heavy on the drums. The specturm of sounds is masterfully done giving a uniqueness to each which makes this an album full of A-sides, all killer and no filler. It’s great to see the man himself still putting in the work which we never tire of and keeps us engaged on what’s next.
