Coming out of left field and definitely not expected was to hear legendary MC, Kool G Rap throw verses over a heavy B-boy track coming out of Dallas, Texas. What are the chances of that you ask!? Well obviously it’s a thing and the Dallas funk outfit known as Silver Skylarks have pulled the strings to deliver “Power Moves” which is definitely a major one in our book and one that we can see ourselves giving heavy spins on the B-boy scene.
The debut single from DFW’s Silver Skylarks is a rambunctious, heavy funk heater that sets the tone with hard breaks, punchy brass, propulsive bass and tasteful vocal refrains from the singing duo, Us. “Power Moves” takes inspiration from the classic B-Boy cuts of the past and delivers a dance floor gem for the heads. The track grooves with the choice guitar playing of the Black Pumas bandleader/producer Adrian Quesada.
The flip side continues the Skylarks’ love affair with 80s hip-hop by rearranging the original and tweaking the mix to perfectly suit the guest vocals of undisputed legend Kool G Rap. G Rap’s vocals deftly dance all over the quick-paced remix and the vibe is enhanced with the turntable work of Menace the DJ.
