This past week we’ve been diving heavy into the sounds of new library music recordings of the last few years as well as most recently within 2024 that have been released. One that we felt that hasn’t gotten enough mention is the latest 45 from Louis Fontaine, “Enigma Pt.1 / 2” on We Stay True which made it’s debut back in May.
More of a full on soundtrack recording, but still in the same vein as some of our favorite library selections of late, Louis Fontaine’s Enigma is inspired by Italian horror/mystery movies, progressive rock and Krautrock of the late 70s. The main theme is arranged in two different ways, like film soundtracks and library music. Side A is fast and dramatic with a motorik gait and side B is slower, more moody affair.
While some modern recordings sound “new”, if we hadn’t been told that Enigma is from the present day, we would’ve thought that it was a lost or under the radar recording of yesterday from an obscure low budget film which makes it even more essential.
