If you’re a DJ or digger and have gone to your favorite record shops in search of finding rare gems, you have no doubt stumbled upon an abundance of unnecessary Christmas albums that are taking up bin space that could be filled with more enjoyable listens. What was it about the Firestone Christmas albums or the wacky who is this barely one hit wonder that scored a record deal and is it actually them on the cover!? But that leads to the question, when was the last time that you actually bought something festive to enhance your holiday cheer? Well I’ve got something for you and this isn’t your great grand parents Christmas song either! Something new for 2024 that gives the genre a boost with a funky swing and extra head nod appeal and that’s exactly what Philly’s Angelo Outlaw has delivered with his new single that drops right on time for the holiday season.
The year 2024 was a critical one for Philadelphia mallet percussionist and poet Angelo Outlaw. His debut album Axis Of Time was released to great acclaim, garnering praise from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Germany’s NDR Kultur and, naturally, his hometown radio station WXPN. After a summer spent performing at some of Philadelphia’s most prestigious events, Angelo is wrapping up the year with a gorgeous cover of Mel Torme’s classic “The Christmas Song.”
Featuring Eraserhood Sound’s signature analog production, the track oozes sophisticated soulfulness. Angelo delivers a mesmerizing performance that picks up right where his debut album left off, interpreting the song’s indelible melody with his dazzling trademark delivery. Ron Kerber adds lush flute to counterpoint Angelo’s melodic playing, and even takes center stage for a jazzy solo. This is instrumental soul-jazz at its best, and the perfect addition to any Christmas lover’s holiday playlist. An Eraserhood Sound Production.
