The Bamboos – Hot Christmas

Tis the season that we’re getting all sorts of holiday cheer from some of our favorite bands who want to make sure that we have a very funky and soulful Christmas and what a wonderful surprise to have some joy reach us all the way from across the globe and the funkiest from Melbourne, The Bamboos. Delivering a catchy and cheerful double-sider to get us in the spirit, “Hot Christmas” b/w “The Bells of Holly Hill” is exactly what ol’ Saint Nick would’ve been blasting from his sleigh as he flew overhead late at night.

This mixed bag of treats gives us The Bamboos in beautiful form with “Hot Christmas” gracing the A-side with astounding vocals by Kylie Auldist, a name that you should be more than familiar with if you’ve following the funk & soul scene which Kylie and The Bamboos have been absolutely dominating for years.

The B-side showcases “The Bells of Holly Hill”, a festive yet heavy instrumental (complete with opening drum break), that stands tall amongst the few Christmas tunes of the past that gave us heavy drums and sleigh bells with this particular tune giving us much more. An absolute masterfully done tune that really sets the tone of exactly how we want our season to look and sound like in every way.

The Bamboos definitely came out strong and this is the perfect return and follow up of their first vinyl release in over a year that you should definitely get your hands on. Limited edition and housed in a beautiful knitted sleeve that truly makes it stand out from your other Christmas carols on 7″.
