Piero Umiliani – Open Space b/w Union Pacific

For fans of Piero Umiliani’s amazing work, this is a great announcement from Palace Records as they will be reissuing four of their favourites from maestros vast back catalogue, including two, Union Pacific and Archeologia Sottomarina, reissued officially for the first time on vinyl.

The impetus for the release came after Andrei Nikolsky visited the legendary Sound Workshop in Rome last year where all of the music was recorded and was shown around and learnt of the history of the studio by Piero’s daughters, Elisabetta and Alessandra. At the end of the tour he cheekily asked if there happened to be any leftover original stock, which fortunately there were, including the sublime Storia E Preistoria, a record he’d never heard of before and which was recommended by Elisabetta. The hauntingly beautiful Archeologia Sottomarina (Underwater Archeology) is taken from this and is the inspiration for the release… and the Seafoam Green label.

Elisabetta and Alessandra have spent a lot of time, money and effort in renovating the studio during the last couple of years – after being left derelict for a long time – and we’re happy it can be put to good use again, making new and incredibly sounding music.
