One of the greatest things about traveling is the connecting of cultures, being introduced to new things and making friends with people who share some of the same interests in art, music culture and life. And as a touring DJ, some of those connections have introduced me to some of the most amazing music, both new and old that really touch a special places especially spiritually. One of those particular times of being introduced to said music came while on tour and Germany and receiving a promo package from Agogo Records consisting of a few of their new releases. Always excited to hear what this global label is working on, the first release that I needle dropped on my return home to start the day came by the likes of Black Jesus eXperience, a soulful, jazzy and afro fueled presentation of rhythms.
Ethiofunk mastertrippers Black Jesus eXperience are a ten (plus) member co-operative of musicians and poets whose sound is rooted the rich soil of Melbourne’s multicultural garden. Eternal paradox cast in 21st Century groove. Black Jesus eXperience deliver musical strength and beauty through the vocal prism of Hip-Hop and freedom of Funk, guided by Ethiopian singer of insightful truth Enushu Taye.
The first selection of music to start our days here at Nostalgia King are always the most important as it sets the tone for the rest of the day and where we’ll eventually wind up. Black Jesus eXperience was that selection that we needed to start the day and one that we never would’ve had, had we not connected the dots culturally with others across the globe.
