A Taste of Sardinia

Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea after Sicily, and one of the twenty regions of Italy. It is located 200 km west of the Italian Peninsula, 200 km north of Tunisia, and 16.45 km south of the French island of Corsica. Sardinia is one of five Italian regions with statutory domestic autonomy.[9] It is divided into six provinces and two metropolitan cities. Cagliari is the capital and largest city, followed by Sassari.

One of the things that I love most about traveling especially when I’m in Europe is the multiple types of foods that I’m always experiencing especially when it’s a first time. Two weeks back while in Germany for out Butta 45’s tour, Scarce One treated tattoo artist and Hip Hop head, Maze and myself to an amazing dinner at a local Sardinian restaurant in the city of Cologne. Domo Mea is small, family style restaurant that feels like it should be for locals only and is owned by a young couple who were absolutely amazing and the hospitality was next level from start to finish. We started to evening out with the perfect charcuterie board complimented with local Sardinian beer. The co-owner asked if we loved cheese which of course we all do and he brought us something that wasn’t on the menu and I’m not quite sure it’s even legal to have in Germany but it was the absolute most amazing (and extremely stinky cheese) that I’ve ever had. When I say it was stinky, I don’t think I’ve ever smelled anything worse but it was well worth trying and quite honestly, as I’m writing this, I could go for more! For a follow up, we enjoyed lamb filet and  mushrooms with almonds which was another unexpected pairing, especially the almond covered mushrooms.

One of the great things about the menu is that it changes daily and keeps things interesting and of course fresh with the ingredients. For this particular evening, there was a fish, vegetarian and pork option which each of actually chose one of each. I opted for the pasta with pork which was exactly what I needed for the main course. Everything on the menu was spot on and you can tell the genuine love that goes into the preparation, cooking and delivery that you won’t find in big restaurants. There’s something about the togetherness, the inviting atmosphere and the initial greeting from the moment you walk into the door. This was definitely a meal and experience to be remembered and one that I hope to return to on the next Germany tour.

Grazie!
