Afro-Disco Makossa is the first Linear Labs album built for the dance floor and from the sounds of it, we’re in for a treat! Having already recorded modern Afrobeat classics with Tony Allen and Ebo Taylor through Jazz Is Dead, Younge asks a new question: what would a Ghanaian producer in ’76 have made if he set out to create an American disco record for his hometown? The result is a relentless, hypnotic patchwork of Afrobeat, funk, and disco recorded to tape, built for the DJ of any era. During a time where other newly recorded genres have seem to have taken up the dance floor space, Afro-Disco Makossa is very much welcomed here at Nostalgia King and in our crates.
Energetic and uplifting with a real feel of authenticity from the golden era of the sound, Adrian Younge really seems to have dialed himself in when creating to this album and we’re here for it! Afro-Disco Makossa feels very much cultural in every way and something that shouldn’t be done unless it’s in its purest and most authentic way.
