This past Saturday I had the pleasure of playing a brunch set and providing the soundtrack at one of my favorite Philly spots, Milkcrate Cafe / Milkcrate Cafe Records. I always love being able to step away from the club atmosphere for a second and pack a bag of different records to play music that’s less for the dance floor and more as a compliment for the room and the weather outside. With a mixed assortment of everything from Jazz to Japanese grooves, I got in a 3 hour set which made a lot of faces smile and received plenty of compliments from the patrons enjoying their breakfast and coffee, weather eating in or taking out. Playing brunch spots and lounges let’s you open up a with selections that are typically reserved for home listening as well brings new ideas to possibly playing them for a large dance audience.
Milkcrate Cafe is one of my favorite places and should definitely be on your list of stops if you’re ever in the city. The food menu is on point as are their crates, digging and dining all in one spot, what’s not to love about that!
