If you are a fan of library music and cinematic works, then do yourself a solid and get very familiar with the name Sean Wolcott who has been dedicating quite sometime to recording and perfecting the sound of music to create the perfect cinematic masterpieces. Obviously inspired by some of the great musicians and composers of the 1960’s and 70’s, there’s something special about Sean Wolcott and they way he records, it has an authentic sound quality that can be attributed to his home base and recording studio, Soundview Analog Recorders. His private studio stands as a one-of-a-kind location housing authentic recording equipment from the peak era of recording, the 1960s which makes total sense when you hear the projects that he’s released. It projects that spirit and essence of the legendary recording houses of the past.

Two weeks ago we covered his upcoming Flying Free library LP which drops later this month and already he has an October drop which serves as a love letter to Japanese soundtracks and cinema. Following in the veins of some of the classic TV and Film soundtracks of that era and samurai genre, Lady Swordfighter obviously pays homage to the legendary and beautiful Meiko Kaji and her Lady Snowblood role as hints from the cover art express. For those not familiar with Meiko Kaji, she is the queen of Japanese cinema as Pam Grier if to Blaxploitation films and both who Quentin Tarantino holds in high regards and has based characters in his films around.

“Lady Swordfighter” is part sonic kabuki play, part cult exploitation soundtrack, featuring a cast of traditional Japanese instrument maestros, including the shakuhachi, koto, shamisen, taiko drums, and more. Journey through a soundscape of soulful ballads, haunting chants, blood-splattered guitars, head-chopping beats, and ominous horns.
