One of the not so fun things about being a traveling DJ is that often times you miss out on things that’s happening locally with various types of events. From DJ / musician performance nights, gallery exhibitions, collectibles show and other fun happenings, it’s inevitable that you will ultimately miss out on something that you really wanted to attend. One of the key factors in being able to be a part of or obtain a piece of the happening or souvenir is to have good friends that will go the extra mile for you. A few weeks back, the legendary Famous Monsters magazine did their annual weekend convention with a ton of guests who were in attendance doing signings and one of them just happened to be Bin Furuya, the man who wore the Ultraman costume in one of my all time favorite Japanese TV series. What are the chances that I would be in his country at the same time he was in mine and let alone, my city!?
Knowing that I was a big fan and was bummed to have missed out on the weekend, the collector homie @yo_rnc_snaps who happened to be working the show told me to grab something before I left that I needed to get signed by the man himself and that’s exactly what I did. Two days before my departure, I went into the stash to grab something to sign and it was definitely the perfect piece. An original Ultraman Japanese soundtrack now signed by the man himself!
