The History of Jazz Kissa at Shyboy HiFi

This past Friday night, I had the pleasure of playing opening week at the brand new Shyboy HiFi in Dallas and it was way more than I expected even after seeing the building progress and completed photos from the space. From front door to the vault, Shyboy HiFi is a well thought out, beautifully designed architectural amazement where no space was left untouched to make sure everything was a cohesive with a beautiful flow that carries throughout. Make no mistake though, Shyboy HiFi is completely unique and unlike any other HiFi spaces here in the states. There was a certain vision that went into making it very unique and standout on it’s own.

For the opening of the evening, I had the pleasure of hosting Sound Advice vol. 1 in the Blue Room which hosts an impressive one of one here in the states OJAS sound system designed by Devon Turnbull complete with TAD loud speakers, Super-sub and 1200G phonoplayer. For a 2-hour session, I dove into the history of the Japanese Jazz Kissa and presented 5 amazing Jazz LPs that I knew would sound amazing on the system. There was a 48 person cap which instantly sold out with in minutes which I was extremely excited to hear about and the energy in the room for the evening was amazing.

After the discussing it was off to the main room which JT Donaldson had opened up and got the crowd in attendance ready for my 5 hour set to come. Once again, a well though out room with ample space in the DJ booth, record bins to house your vinyl and immaculate sound. As time of my first needle drop, the room was completely full with a line down the block and around the corner which shows a great sign for what Shyboy HiFi will be bringing to the city of Dallas which is something special and much needed.

Thank you to JT Donaldson for connecting the dots and knowing that I would fit perfectly into the space. Thank you to Shyboy HiFi for opening the doors and allowing me to do what I do best on the best setup possible. Thank you to everyone in attendance, especially in the Blue Room. That felt really special and to hear people say that they now love Jazz because of it or they’re only 26 and have recently gotten into Jazz and this was the perfect night for them is what music is for, connecting people and cultures.

Extra special thanks to Georgie T @georgielovesmusic for the photography who came through in the clutch. I had completely forgotten about having someone document the evening and he showed up with camera in hand and ready. The photos look absolutely amazing and capture the night perfectly. Thank you for being there, my brother!
