Heading downtown to catch the Saturday matinee and screening the John Carpenter post apocalypse classic Escape From New York featuring an all star cast including Kurt Russell, Issac Hayes, Ox Baker, Lee Van Cleef and Donald Pleasence to name a few. The film was originally written by Carpenter in the mid 70’s as a reaction to the Watergate scandal and was released in theaters in 1981. The film is set in what was then the near-future year of 1997, in a crime-ridden United States that has converted Manhattan Island in New York City into the country’s maximum security prison. When Air Force One is hijacked by terrorists and crashes into New York City, ex-soldier and federal prisoner Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) is given 24 hours to rescue the President of the United States.
