Over the last few years there’s been quite a few labels to release 90’s era Hip Hop singles to 7″ or reissue 45’s of previously released tunes that have been played and played again throughout the years. Most of these records were the typical go to club favorite rap 12″ that we’ve all heard but in our opinion lacked that extra oomph that we’d like. When we say oomph, we mean something a bit more than the norm. Something like an album cut, a b-side or even the occasional remix that was only on a promo 12″, anything other than the standard go to.
With that being said, there’s a new label that’s changing the way we pack our crates and giving us a few deeper cuts, songs that we know but have really aged well and withstood the test of time while still sounding refreshing. The label we’re referring to is FlipNJay Records ran by DJ’s Flipout and Jay Swing and their focus is pure Canadian sure shots from some of the countries finest. Already off to a great start in their discography, they’ve released a handful of 45’s by the likes of Rascalz “Northern Touch”, Maestro Fresh-Wes “Let Your Backbone Slide”, Saukrates “Father Time” and Kardinal Offishall “BaKardi Slang”. But just when we thought that it couldn’t get and better for 2020, they’ve recently dropped two more joints by K-Os “Superstarr Part Zero” and Checkmate “R.A.W.”.
Just in case you’ve lost count, that’s a total of 6 crate essential gems that should definitely be in the mix in your future sets, whether it’s on your Twitch channel or future club night when it’s safe to rock again. FlipNJay Records is distributed by Canada’s Beat Street Records so if you’re looking for the hook up, head over to https://beatstreet.ca for the goods.
