Seeing and hearing the talents of individuals who are not only artists, musicians and creatives but of times label owners themselves is one of the best things. You see just how much of their influence goes into the music that the listen to and enjoy as well as the music that they release on their label by other artists. They’ve created and overall branding of sorts that exists on a quality that only they can create which makes their label unique in every way.
One of the people that I’ve seen over the years do just that it Markey Funk of the Jerusalem based Delights 45 label that has been releasing music for over a decade now and a person who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting while on tour and who we instantly bonded on the sound of music. After a long break since the labels last release, we are reintroduced to it with a new release by the labels head honcho himself, which surprisingly is his first solo project in four years and one that does not disappoint.
Keeping within the cinematic realm that we’ve come to love from Delights, Markey has crafted a special blend of cinematic funk, baroque psych and haunted electronica, tightened by the backbeat from his long-time collaborator, Sagi Sachs. The result is two cuts of quintessential Delights sound: sinister floor-killer “Barrier” and the eerie chase theme “Chronoscope” on the flip. It’s easy to sit back and close your eyes while envisioning full on visual film scenes and sequences that these tracks can play out in while working in tandem to tell a complete story. As always, Delights releases are crate essentials and if you’re every in a position to make a movie, they are your goto source for backdrops.
