As one of the earliest to writers to cover the Choi Records label, we told you that there was something special about them before most were even in the know and since then, they’ve dropped some of our favorite 7’s to rotate on the decks. The latest and first Hip Hop release to make it’s debut on the label comes in heavy and features the one and only Guilty Simpson on mic control with “Hip Hop Saved My Life”. With proper production duties handled by Choi, this a perfect combination and testament to Hip Hop being something great and with the sound selection, this definitely stands out above other typical boom bap production sounds.
“The A side has a super hot ol skool runnin’ beat with horn samples, scratching, bass, Hammond organ and even some 80s realistic synth(made by Moog) thrown in. On top of that Guilty Simpson’s flow and cadence is impeccable as always. The Bvs by Thando add that touch of RnB and add punch to the chorus. This is a sonic floor shaker of a HipHOp Track and sure to heat up the dance floor for those who want to sweat it out.”
“B Side This BOOM BAP stye changes the feel up going into a crunchy, crusty drum groove with claps and clanks and spacey back drop. The bass in this track is heavy and is a heavy feature of the track. Bvs by Thando beef up the chorus into a great anthem and add sass and RnB flavor throughout. Synths and other precussion add the toppings. This Boom Bap style is a def neck breaker for the hip hop club floor!!”
