One of the most interesting and beautiful records that has arrived here at Nostalgia King is the self-titled release by Jaromír Löffler & Jeho Kapela on Memory Records coming out of Praque. An absolutely stunning record featuring legendary singer Jaromír Löffler who’s musical legacy is one that should be noted and preserved. Diving deep into the world of soul music, 74 year old Löffler combines his Czech roots with American Soul, Blues and Jazz that delivers a sound that’s timeless and honest.
The self-titled LP hears Jaromír Löffler and Jeho Kapela not only covering but adding a Czech influence to take something regional to a global level. Cover versions from the likes of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins “I Put A Spell On You” and Bill Withers “Ain’t No Sunshine” show the level and depth that shine through when listening to the album which is a perfect 7-tracker from start to finish.
So how is it that this is the first time that we’re hearing soul music being presented from a country that obviously has a talent like Löffler? Mainly because the genre is still very niche although its a global sound and there is only one label dedicated to releasing this style of music which is Memory Records. As with anything when there is a small demographic, it’s usually an uphill climb to deliver product to the masses but the label is doing an amazing job at curating the music, now it’s time for the rest of the world to get hipped.
It’s quite obvious from the first needle drop that Jaromír Löffler and Jeho Kapela have something special here which deserves your full and undivided attention as you’re immersed in a beautiful soundscape of rich, soulful joy.
